unfortunately, that will never happen--as i'm sure you're aware debian has
an almost draconian approach to managing changes across their stable
releases. my best suggestion to you is
* add a deb-src entry for lenny
* apt-get source the package
* copy the files to somewhere under /usr/local
alternatively you could cherry pick the fixes out of git and roll your
own package, but then you might as well take a newer/backported package.
