I've built open-vm tools using m-a on several machine and none of them are reporting the IP address or DNS name to ESX(i) or Virtual Center. I've done this on a stand alone ESXi 4 machine and a cluster or ESX 4 hosts managed with Virtual Center. The modules are loaded correctly and vmmemctl and vmtoolsd are running.
