Dear Ron, I am aware of the tug-of-war between console-tools and kbd. And I read both of the bug reports to which you referred. All I can say is that I did a fresh install of Lenny a few weeks after it became the stable release, using the official Debian installer, and it installed console-tools by default. Then I installed svgatextmode and was forced to switch to kbd as a result. It sounds to me like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. All I'm asking for is a consistent view of console management by the Debian distribution. Either support diversity or just have one package.
