This is not the same problem as #546504; the chroot in which I tested
the upgrade already had dash 0.5.5.1-2.3 installed.  As I tried to
explain, the problem is that dpkg triggers kick in between unpacking and
configuring bash and fail because there is no /bin/sh, leaving the
system hosed until you restore the /bin/sh symlink one way or the
other.

This is probably due to the fact that apt installs packages by calling
"dpkg --unpack" first and "dpkg --configure" later.
