So, when is this going to get fixed?

Installing menu-xdg causes .desktop files to be created for all Debian
packages delivering Debian menu entries, but those .desktop files are placed
in /var/lib/menu-xdg/applications, which apparently lxde doesn't notice.

How about arranging for the default lxpanel installation to include a 'Debian'
entry on the menu populated with the hierarchy created by menu-xdg if it is
present?  Alternatively, you could have lxpanel deliver a Debian menu method 
that is more or less like menu-xdg but drops the .desktop files in a place 
lxde will find them... but that seems unnecessarily redundant.
