I disagree with the statement that this bug is non-RC.

I would be extremely surprised if the vast majority of users even know
that gdebi can be run as root, or that it has a command line version
that still works in spite of this bug.

This is because the purpose of gdebi is to install packages when the
user double-clicks on them in their file manager. This action does not
launch gdebi as root.

If a user is clueful enough to know about gdebi on the command line,
then I don't see why they wouldn't also know how to use su and dpkg and
apt directly.
