Hi, today, I experienced this problem, too. I have what looked like a successful run of aptitude (no warnings or error messages displayed), but the error code was "255". As a consequence, this sequence failed:
# aptitude update && aptitude safe-upgrade It would be nice to find such error codes in the man page. I also think that silent failure is not good behaviour for programs, much less so for critical infrastructure.
