Hi,
Well, what commands were you issuing when the build failed? I
can still build a kernel_image with rootcmd fakeroot, and I do not see
where the bug could lie, especially without a log.
Secondly, the whole system was revamped after lenny released, so
this is a non-issue for the latest kernel-package, but the bug is not
important enough to get past the release managers for a stable update.
You may try out kernel-package from testing, if you want, though
that would require you to configure /etc/kernel/*.d directories,
details in the docs.
