Jan, Jmeter has landed in Ubuntu. You can search and download the packages from http://packages.ubuntu.com. You will need to manually install libexcalibur-logkit-java and libexcalibur-logger-java from the Ubuntu archive as well. Let me know if you have any comments. I have filed ITP for excalibur-logkit and excalibur-logger. I have also ported excalibur-logkit in pkg-java svn and now waiting for sponsorship.
