I reassign this bug from gnome-terminal to libvte as this is indeed a bug in libvte (which shows not only in gnome-terminal but in every terminal which is linked against libvte. This is also described in a separate bugreport to upstream: http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-devel-list/2009-February/msg00018.html but nobody reacted. It would be cool if you, as maintainer of libvte, could digg further into this issue and have a look if this is going to be fixed in time as this disables some very usefull and often used features in mcedit (and probably also in other applications).
