sprof in lenny (libc 2.7-18) is currently completely non-functional due to that bug.

I tried applying that patch to debian's glibc, and while it applies cleanly, and solves the immediate issue, I then get:

Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dl-open.c: 652: _dl_open: Assertion `_dl_debug_initialize (0, args.nsid)->r_state == RT_CONSISTENT' failed!

And unfortunately, that bug is also still present in debian glibc 2.9-21. So sprof in unstable is also completely non-functional. :(

It might be solved by the patch in:
http://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2008-08/msg00016.html

But I haven't tried rebuilding again with that patch to see if those *two* patches are all that's needed.
The thread suggests that it might not be...
