thank you for maintaning gdm. I am studying the console handling code in getvt.c and I have noticed that in get_free_vt_sys, the file descriptor open to /dev/console is never closed if the function ends successfully, and is not returned or stored anywhere. I am not sure there is a reason to keep that open, and it looks like it is a minor bug. Feel free to close this report if this is the intended behaviour.
