Hi,
I tried all asus models from ALC883/888, ALC882/885 and ALC880, plus
targa and targa-dig, to no success. Sorry for not mentioning it in the
previous messages.
Unless I'm doing it the wrong way, this is not my solution.
Here's how I tested:
edit "/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf" by adding "options snd-hda-intel
model=x"
alsa force-reload
play a sound
I also tried some restarts.
Best wishes,
Alex

Problem solution: it`s needed to add line:
options snd-hda-intel model=targa-dig
to file: /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
Laptop model: MSI EX600-200
You can create a local file which won't be updated by an ugrade:
echo "options snd-hda-intel model=targa-dig" >>
/etc/modprobe.d/local_options.conf
Thanks for the hint ;-) Could the others please test this as well?
Maybe another model out of kernels
Documentation/sound/alsa/HD-Audio-Models.txt could help?
I attached the list, though.
