It is a different issue (one that exists in the kernel, IMO) but is
easily fixed by bringing NM into the picture.  In a perfect world, one
could build Pidgin with NM support but be able to turn it off, and
then everyone would be happy...

I will continue to patch my Pidgin packages then.  It's not a huge
deal, and at least I *have* that option anyway.  :)

(As a post-script, I would like to point out, however, that the
correct resolution to that bug should probably be "remove
NetworkManager.")
