Package: inn2
Version: 2.5.0-1
Severity: minor

Hi,

Here are a few remarks for the INN 2.5.0 Debian package.

Incidentally, can't there be an inn2-cleanfeed package in Debian?

* A value should be added to --with-http-dir at configure time.
 I see /usr/lib/news/http/innreport.css, which is not usual for Debian.

* inn2-2.5.0/extra/send-uucp.cf is not necessary because INN 2.5.0
 is shipped with samples/send-uucp.cf (which is more up-to-date than
 your extra sample).

* LICENSE: wouldn't it be possible to automatically update
 the inn2.copyright file with LICENSE? There is the problem
 every time a new package comes...

* /etc/init.d/inn2:

   # su news -c '/usr/lib/news/bin/nnrpd -D -c /etc/news/readers-ssl.conf -p
563 -S'

 nnrpd-ssl because it is the right binary name here.

   reload|force-reload)
     ctlinnd -t 20 reload '' 'init script'
   restart)
     ctlinnd -t 20 throttle 'init script' > /dev/null || true
     ctlinnd -t 20 xexec innd > /dev/null || start

 Shouldn't there be a "su news" to execute these commands?

   echo "Usage: /etc/init.d/inn start|stop|restart|reload">&2

 It is "/etc/init.d/inn2".

* Suggests: gnupg, wget, libgd-gd2-noxpm-perl, ${shlibs:Suggests}

 Can't it also be suggested SASL mechanisms like libsasl2-modules,
 libsasl2-modules-otp, libsasl2-gssapi-mit and others?

* Homepage: http://www.isc.org/products/INN/

 Not valid! I see it is also mentioned in <http://packages.debian.org/sid/inn2>
 but it is not valid. It is <https://www.isc.org/software/inn>.

* inn2.cron.d:

   # also to process queud up articles put there by in.nnrpd in case

 "in." should be removed.

* README:

   The program 'compress' is not a part of Debian GNU/Linux due to patent issues
   with the algorithm. By default, the innshellvars* files will try to call
   'compress' if you try to transport compressed batches over UUCP. This will
   work if you install the non-free 'ncompress' package. Since it's non-free,
   this might be as unacceptable to you as it is to me! If you know that all of
   your neighbors can handle gzip, a better solution might be to edit the
   innshellvars* files to use '/bin/gzip -9' for the COMPRESS variable. I do
not
   intend to change this default to differ from the upstream source.

 There is something I do not understand. Why should it be changed in
innshellvars*
 and INN::Config (new in INN 2.5.0)? Isn't it enough not to use compress in
 send-uucp.cf?

   See nnrpd(8) and sasl.conf(5) for details.

 sasl.conf does not exist any more.

   Kerberos Authentication
   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
   To enable support for kerberos authentication the dependencies of
   /usr/lib/news/bin/auth/passwd/auth_krb5 must be installed: libkrb5-3.
 Isn't it already installed?  (It is associated to the inn2 package.)
* /etc/news/distributions is missing.  My fault, sorry.
 $D$(PATH_DISTRIBUTIONS) should be added at line 80 of site/Makefile.
That's all.  Thanks again for having packaged INN 2.5.0!
