First, thanks for packaging this - it is a really neat bit of software. So, I was working with it over the weekend, and I stumbled on the fact that the lenny version and the sid version have the same soname, despite the sid version having a very changed API. If none of the symbols present in stable have been dropped, the correct thing to do would be to change the shlibs exported by this library (at present, it sets no versioned dependency when being built against). If some symbols have disappeared or changed, the appropriate thing to is to change soname.
