For some time now the german umlauts in the german fortunes gets not
printed anymore. They just get left out.
It is a little bit hard o verify because this seems to be related to several
things regarding to your environment. The code which is relevant for
display is not really contained in fortunes-de. This package just contains
a UTF-8 text database. The specified time "for some time" is also a little
bit unsharp. ;-)
Could you please verify whether fortunes-de behaves nice in an UTF-8 capable
terminal for instance
xterm -u8 ( uxterm )
Could you please add information about the terminal you are using. I know that
the problem you described occures in some xscreensaver modules but this is a
lack in the capabilities of these modules not in the fortunes-de database.
I'm sorry, I can not verify your problem on any of my machines and need some
more information to track down this problem.
