I think that the manpage would be clearer for DEBCHECKOUT_AUTH_URLS, if instead of Using this setting users can specify how to enable authenticated mode for repositories hosted on non well-known machines. it would say This setting can be used to enable authenticated mode for most repositories out there. Note that the Debian repositories on alioth.debian.org (*.debian.org) are implicitly defined.
