I experienced a similar issue in Lenny AMD64. While the current kernel is 2.6.26-2, nvidia-glx still depends on nvidia-kernel-2.6.26-1-amd64. However, if I first select nvidia-kernel-2.6-amd64 (which depends on nvidia-kernel-2.6.26-2-amd64), nvidia-glx does not require the wrong nvidia kernel modules any more as nvidia-kernel-173.14.09 is provided by the latter.
