Sorry for the duplicate msgs :)
I solved quick-fixed the problem by apt pinning the libmagic1 package
down to version 4.26 (I needed to downgrade libmagic-dev and file to 4.17).
While doing the downgrade, I noticed that libmagic1 4.17 uses also the
non-standard mime type vnd.ms-word, so 4.26 seems to be the only working
version.
It would be nice to not to use old packages, though.
