I've tried this with my own config and via `vim -u NORC -N bleh' and am
unable to reproduce the problem.  Do you still see the problem starting
Vim this way?

After the :split, could you call ":scriptnames" and see if you have any
netrw*.vim scripts being loaded other than the ones under
/usr/share/vim/vim72.

Do you have any netrw variables in your ~/.vimrc or ~/.gvimrc?

Also, netrw was updated in 2:7.2.148-1 so you may want to upgrade Vim
and see if that fixes the problem.
