I'll go one step further and give you a script which you can run in a
debootstrap chroot. You'll see the superfluous password prompt after
the MOTD.
A few notes:
* The script is (in theory) idempotent, in case you need to run it again.
In any case, what it does should be obvious.
* You'll want to run losetup before each login; the loop device seems
to go away with the dm-crypt device.
* I tried using su instead of login, but while logging in works okay,
logging out fails horrendously. (It seems to try to unmount as the
user instead of root.)
