I can confirm this behavior, when I use "Linux Libertine O" in OpenOffice.org 3.0 and set it as bold, result is bold italics.
Also after upgrade to ttf-linux-libertine 4.4.1-1 I've noticed "Linux Libertine" (note missing "O" in name!, this fix is provided by /etc/fonts/conf.d/90-ttf-linux-libertine.conf) shows as bold instead of regular weight.
