This also is a question that you'd be best to take up on the upstream list. I don't have a tablet with pads, so I can't confirm or deny whether this is expected, or a bug for your particular tablet. If you want to change the current behaviour, you'll definitely need to convince upstream first in any case. There are many eyes there, probably even some with the same tablet as you. It really is the best place to report anything that isn't specific to the Debian packaging. We don't want to fork this from them if it isn't critically urgent to do so, so we aren't usually going to 'lead' on any changes like that without discussion there first.
