Well, I discovered why monit was reporting dansguardian failures at 7:43am every morning. Bad interaction between logrotate, which involves stopping dansguardian, and monit checking it's running.
So I've tweaked the dansguardian logrotate script to get monit to unmonitor dansguardian for the duration of the logrotate.
