Thank you for your feedback. The mail-transport-agent dependency could probably indeed be downgraded to a recommendation (or even a suggestion). This may require more graceful handling of a missing /usr/sbin/sendmail. I'm filing a bug for this and will set you as the submitter so that you get notified when this is fixed. I'm at loss, however, as to why exim4 got installed for you if you already have an MTA installed. All MTAs in Debian should provide the mail-transport-agent virtual package, which is enough to satisfy the dependency. If you have a local MTA installation instead of a Debian-packaged one, you might want to avoid further frustration by using the 'equivs' package to create a local metapackage that provides mail-transport-agent. As for the Apache dependency, there are viable uses for Smokeping without the CGI frontend. These include email alerts, offloading presentation to a separate web server via e.g. NFS, and (in post-Etch versions) master/slave setups. Thus a recommendation seems to be correct. Finally, please consider using a more polite tone next time. You are certainly free to begin from scratch and create your own Smokeping package that meets your quality criteria. Should you ever encounter a non-crappy component in our packaging, you're even free to reuse that; that's what free software is about after all. -- Niko Tyni [email protected] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [email protected] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
