I would guess that your locked memory limit is either high or unlimited.
 See 'ulimit -l' or 'ulimit -a'.

I just checked four different systems, and found three different values,
(32 KB, 64 KB, 64 KB, unlimited). Some other limits vary as well.

I don't know why that would be; none of them have that limit set to
anything in /etc/security/limits.conf. I'll investigate further tomorrow.

In any case, I think it can't hurt to set a limit on locked memory; if
the old limit is too low, slmodemd needs to raise it to run, and if the
old limit is higher than necessary, lowering it is just trimming excess.
