a new upstream release is available (1.16.2) [1] which is supposed to fix these hangs (which is confirmed in [2]). Please upload this new release as soon as possible because xine 1.16 breaks quite a few apps including amarok and kaffeine (read http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=180339).
