Package: xinetd Version: 1:2.3.14-7 Severity: wishlist Tags: upstream xinetd's transport-level redirection feature is awesome and could help in solving a long-standing problem:
I have a host which has apache running on 127.0.0.1:80. I also
need a different apache on the external iface, but that changes
address from time to time.
Right now, I can use iptables to redirect the packets, but that
does not work for IPv6.
The only way to do it is by rewriting the apache.conf file when
the address changes, which sucks.
If xinetd's bind/interface parameter would take an interface name
(rather than only an IP), that would rock! Now, xinetd would be
responsible of
- rebinding to a new IP when the old one is replaced
- wait around for the interface to come up if it is down (or
non-existent)
Neither of those are trivial, but they aren't rocket science either.
It seems that xinetd would profit greatly from that feature though.
