I'm not sure why this is a kernel bug.  s2ram works fine alone, like I said.  
When the lid is closed and then opened, the machine does wake up.  For 
instance, if I have music playing in the background before closing the lid, the 
music resumes playing after I open the lid.  The lcd also turns on.  However, 
it remains black (with the mouse frozen), and the machine is totally 
unresponsive to user input.
