We got a request for Lintian to add /usr/bin/rep as a known interpreter
(Bug#510954), and while I was researching that, I saw that /usr/bin/rep
is shipped with the shared library package librep9. I believe this is
contrary to Policy 8.2:
If your package contains files whose names do not change with each
change in the library shared object version, you must not put them in
the shared library package. Otherwise, several versions of the shared
library cannot be installed at the same time without filename clashes,
making upgrades and transitions unnecessarily difficult.
While this violates a must in Policy, it's not on the lenny RC bug list,
so I'm filing this as important rather than serious.
Could you move rep, rep-remote, and their man pages into a separate package
that depends on librep9? It looks like everything else in the librep9
package is properly versioned and won't have this problem.
