Package: apcupsd Version: 3.10.17-2 Severity: important When I disconnect the USB cable the apcupsd process becomes defunct:
ps aux | grep apcupsd root 3374 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? Zs 00:37 0:01 [apcupsd] <defunct> tavi 32155 0.0 0.1 1836 588 pts/5 R+ 18:09 0:00 grep apcupsd The apcupsd cannot be restarted without a machine reboot after such a cable disconnect According to the apcupsd developers this is a kernel bug (I am running the stock kernel for sarge - 2.6.8). This seems to be consistent with the fact that upgrading to kernel 2.6.11 fixes the problem. See the following for the discussion on the apcupsd mailing list: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=12038143 The /var/log/messages shows: Jun 11 18:05:25 localhost kernel: usb 1-2: USB disconnect, address 2 41 Jun 11 18:05:30 localhost kernel: e09c9ef7 42 Jun 11 18:05:30 localhost kernel: PREEMPT 43 Jun 11 18:05:30 localhost kernel: Modules linked in: ipv6 floppy parport_pc parport pcspkr rtc snd_ens1371 snd_rawmidi snd_seq_device snd_pcm snd_page_alloc snd_timer snd_ 44 Jun 11 18:05:30 localhost kernel: CPU: 0 45 Jun 11 18:05:30 localhost kernel: EIP: 0060:[__crc_xfrm_get_type+310265/3356969] Tainted: P 46 Jun 11 18:05:30 localhost kernel: EFLAGS: 00010296 (2.6.8-2-686) 47 Jun 11 18:05:30 localhost kernel: EIP is at usb_deregister_dev+0x17/0xb0 [usbcore] 48 Jun 11 18:05:30 localhost kernel: eax: ffffffff ebx: defe4400 ecx: 00000000 edx: 00000000 49 Jun 11 18:05:30 localhost kernel: esi: ffffffff edi: e09afa80 ebp: deb0415c esp: ddc27f0c 50 Jun 11 18:05:30 localhost kernel: ds: 007b es: 007b ss: 0068 51 Jun 11 18:05:30 localhost kernel: Process apcupsd (pid: 3374, threadinfo=ddc26000 task=dec2d770) 52 Jun 11 18:05:30 localhost kernel: Stack: c0282618 c02bca40 c03605e0 4002e080 00000000 00000000 4002e080 00000000 53 Jun 11 18:05:30 localhost kernel: 00000000 00000000 defe4400 defe4414 defe4400 defe4414 de996000 e09ab0b7 54 Jun 11 18:05:30 localhost kernel: ffffffff e09afa80 defe4400 e09ab179 defe4400 deca3560 00000000 deca3560 55 Jun 11 18:05:30 localhost kernel: Call Trace: 56 Jun 11 18:05:30 localhost kernel: [schedule+696/1232] schedule+0x2b8/0x4d0 57 Jun 11 18:05:30 localhost kernel: [__crc_xfrm_get_type+183737/3356969] hiddev_cleanup+0x37/0x50 [usbhid] 58 Jun 11 18:05:30 localhost kernel: [__crc_xfrm_get_type+183931/3356969] hiddev_release+0xa9/0xb0 [usbhid] 59 Jun 11 18:05:30 localhost kernel: [__crc_xfrm_get_type+183762/3356969] hiddev_release+0x0/0xb0 [usbhid] 60 Jun 11 18:05:30 localhost kernel: [__fput+286/304] __fput+0x11e/0x130 61 Jun 11 18:05:30 localhost kernel: [filp_close+89/144] filp_close+0x59/0x90 62 Jun 11 18:05:30 localhost kernel: [sys_close+97/160] sys_close+0x61/0xa0 63 Jun 11 18:05:30 localhost kernel: [syscall_call+7/11] syscall_call+0x7/0xb 64 Jun 11 18:05:30 localhost kernel: Code: 83 7e 0c ff 8b 5f 0c 74 5d b8 00 e0 ff ff 21 e0 ff 40 14 8b I am using: Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 (sarge) kernel 2.6.8-2-686 (stock kernel) libc6 2.3.2.ds1-22 apcupsd 3.10.17-2 __________________________________ Discover Yahoo!
