Hi, I encountered the same problem. I do not know what caused this; but due to this problem software-properties-gtk failed to start. I upgraded etch->lenny a few months ago. There was definitely no other GNU/Linux distribution on this partition before that wasn't erased.
Removing the file solved the problem.
