the .desktop file currently included in the ardour-gtk package is obsolete. The legacy installation path /usr/share/gnome/apps/Multimedia/ should be replaced by the XDG compliant location /usr/share/applications. and the .desktop file look something like: [Desktop Entry] Encoding=UTF-8 Name=Ardour GTK Comment=Ardour Digital Audio Workstation (GTK Interface) Exec=/usr/bin/X11/xterm -hold -e /usr/bin/ardour Terminal=false Type=Application Categories=Application;AudioVideo;Audio; (note the Categories= entry).
