Hmm, looking at it, I'd say it should just be 'echo'.  -n would omit the
trailing newline, where -e would allow the interpretation of \t and so
forth.  I don't seem to want ither there - I suppose it's a holdover
from an earlier packaging version where I did use a \t or embed a \n in
the middle or something.
