There are also three font packages not maintained by Anthony Fok that Depend on xutils; for the moment I won't file bugs on those packages, in the hope of first learning more about the bug from this bug report.]
Various font packages Depend on xutils, and I was going to file a wishlist bug asking to switch to a more specific package (perhaps with `| xutils') now that xutils has been split into smaller packages; but looking at the contents of ttf-arphic-bkai00mp and some of the other packages (including at least one of the packages not maintained by Anthony Fok), I can't actually see why xutils is a dependency. The control scripts use defoma (which is already separately in the Depends list), and no other non-essential/base package. There are no other scripts in the packages I've looked at. I haven't yet tried forcing a purge of xutils and its dependencies and checking whether I can still install and use these fonts. I note that x-ttcidfont-conf (Suggest'ed by ttf-arphic-bkai00mp) Depends on xfonts-utils (for mkfontdir); I don't know if this is related. Another clue is that the font packages that Depend on xutils are all non-Roman fonts: Chinese, Japanese, Mongolian Cyrillic, and APL. Do you remember why xutils is in the Depends list? Can it be simply removed?
