In downloading a DVD iso image file with jigdo, smbclient_3.0.14a-3_i386.deb

Which could be a bug in your mirror, your network connection, or the jigdo
file, but not in the smbclient package itself. What mirror were you pulling
packages from, and is the error reproducible if you point at a different
mirror?
I agree with you. I believe the package might be in good shape. For some
reason, jigdo think the file is larger than it really is, or find a
premature end-of-file. I don't know.
I tried several mirros, including http://ftp.us.debian.org,
http://debian.rutgers.edu, http://ftp.cl.debian.org,
http://ftp.at.debian.org with the same result.
Then I tried using wget alone and curl. I see that no matter which method
or site I try, I always get the download interrupted
