The kernel doesn't use an initrd image. I don't use the debian stock kernel 
because I use the new PATA drivers (my system have both PATA and SATA) so all 
drives are /dev/sdXX. Actually /dev/sda is a PATA drive and /dev/sdb 
and /dev/sdc are the RAID 0 array.
