Hi,
Since a few days, kernel maintainers have disabled the (uptream) deprecated
kernel option CONFIG_WIRELESS_EXT_SYSFS (look at the current
linux-image-2.6.27-rc5-amd64 in the Debian kernel team repo).
When I use this kernel, my wireless card (Intel 4965 AG) is seen as a wired
connection by network-manager (iwconfig or iwlist work perfectly). So, I think
that network-manager rely on this deprecated kernel option to detect wireless
cards.
This will need to be fixed quickly after lenny (when the kernel team will
upload 2.6.27 in sid) in order not to break network-manager for all wifi users
[if my analyse if correct, of course]
This bug does not concern lenny as CONFIG_WIRELESS_EXT_SYSFS is set in
lenny's kernels.
