I'd suggest doing s/python_version/system_python_version/ to keep it clear that the version you're talking about has nothing to do with the version of python required to actually run this app.
Hmm. I wonder if the dependancy logic should be touched so that when -V is specified that $python becomes $usepython. I could look at that later if you'd like to complete this.
