Package: tk8.4
Version: 8.4.9-1
Severity: important

hello,

i'm the maintainer of tkabber, and i got the following bugreport
recently: #312258: tkabber hangs randomly

this bug reports that tkabber hangs randomly when used with kernel 2.6.

the problem seems to be how tk/tcl uses pthreads, pthreads themselves or
new kernel 2.6 kernel threads.

as you build tk8.4 with --enable-threads currently, i'dd suggest to
investigate this bug or remove this build option.

seems like tkabber is not the only tk application with such problems:
http://amsn.sourceforge.net/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=14
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=229322
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=253272

please let me know your plans, whether you upload a new tk8.4 package
without the --enable-threads build option soon, or whether you have any
other advice for bug 312258.

by the way, it's no option to use tk8.3 for tkabber, as libtk-img could
not be used by tkabber this way.

bye
 jonas
