It is correct that there are two possible locations for the disk_var.sh file, for a simple reason: /var/lib/fai is unavailable at the beginning of the installation (and actually also at the point where the file is written), so this directory cannot be used all the time. On the other hand, $LOGDIR changes from the time of installation (where this is tmpfs anyway) to later softupdates, so it cannot be used as a unique source for _retaining_ the file either.
In your scripts, however, you may always refer to $LOGDIR/disk_var.sh to read from this file as FAI takes care of copying it to this location. I'd suggest tagging this bug wontfix or closing it, but I'd leave this decision to Thomas. Best, Michael
