Is there no chance to get a fully functional version of vlc/ffmpeg from the non-free repository?

Download and compiling a patched, own version isn't really a solution when there's comfortable way to do it via aptitude, insn't it?!

No, not yet.

You'll have to download the Debian ffmpeg source package (apt-get source ffmpeg), rebuild the source tarball (DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=externalcodecs debian/rules get-orig-source) and then build the binary packages (DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=externalcodecs dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc).

Hope that helps for a while.

Cheers,
Fabian
