Hello Dominique! Having a bad day? As the change of name indicates, "XMMS2" is not "XMMS" (AKA XMMS1). If you really want XMMS1, why not install it? It's Freely available at www.xmms.org. It still works like in 1997. Now if your rant was in fact a disguised constructive list of suggestions for how to make XMMS2 more user-friendly, you might want to give us more information about what you were doing "attempt[ing] to build a media library [for 10 minutes]"? And did you read the following page: http://wiki.xmms2.xmms.se/wiki/Using_the_application ('xmms2 help' would have taught you about replacing the 'add' command with 'radd'.) A broader question is: what features do you need? Every tool or system comes with a purpose and a scope. Operating systems, file systems, window managers, instant noodles, tractors and even music players. Each individual has different needs and requirements, so solutions vary. Some people will be happier with mpg123, XMMS, VLC, Amarok or Windows Media Player. Some with XMMS2. Facts: 1) XMMS2 does not have the same "mission" and vision as XMMS1. 2) gxmms2 is not XMMS2. 3) XMMS2 is a DR, expect rough edges. Constructive criticism is very welcome, but formulating it as a deprecating rant is unhelpful. We've tried to explicit XMMS2's goals on the website (xmms2.sf.net), if you disagree with them it might be time to try something else. If however you did read and agree with them, we'd be happy to hear a clear, non-offensive description of the features you miss and don't mix a particular interface with the back-end. Maybe you'd enjoy other clients more, too. Thanks for trying XMMS2.
