Romain thanks for your reply. I apologize for not being more descriptive in my original report. Basically, after installing the fglrx-kernel-src package, I untarred the resulting fglrx.tar.bz2 file /usr/src; this created the fglrx directory in /usr/src/modules. I descended into /usr/src/modules/fglrx and ran ./make.sh to build the module. At the time I was not aware of the recommend way to build the module. Thank you for the update.
