Rather than modify existing upstream, maybe just mention setgid_group in
README.Debian or provide a main.cf.dist.Debian?

The same error I got when tryed postalias with such main.cf
main.cf as distributed by upstream requires that you initialize
setgid_group to something. Since that is platform dependent, I doubt
that upstream will be changing it anytime soon. Likewise, I'm not sure
if I want to deliver a main.cf.dist that isn't exactly what upstream
provides.
I'll have to give this more thought.
