That's one of the very annoying features of mutt. Is mostly comes from your settigns requiring to send mails in ISO-8859-2. As PO files are considered as text files, mut re-encodes them just as it re-encodes your mail text if needed. The solution to this is to tell mutt that PO files are *not* text files: ~/.mime.types: application/x-gettext po
