/var/backup is the place for backups.

It's not anymore. I submitted #300445, which has been applied in
0.7, and which gets rid of the need to create a backup file for the
purpose of undoing edits. Keeping a backup file is still good, but
now it can be kept in the same place as Debian keeps other backups.
