I did the 0.8.6.e-2.1 upload which was a security fix. Looking at the patch (which was assembled by upstream changes) I can't see any breakage: http://people.debian.org/~nion/nmu-diff/vlc-0.8.6.e-2_0.8.6.e-2.1.patch Could you upload one of these files somewhere?
