This is a well-known bug for the upstream developer. The bug is been fixed in the new upstream version 1.0 completely rewritten with libxcb instead of libx11. The current maintainer of xbattbar-acpi is not active anymore. I'm considering to maintain it since I have alredy packaged the 1.0 for my private use. Thank you for the bug report.
